With the release of RES Workspace Manager 2014 SR2 we have fully integrated support for Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp 7.x and Citrix Receiver 4.x. Now it is possible to publish applications and launch them using Citrix Receiver 4 and Citrix StoreFront, all with the benefits of RES Workspace Manager’s context aware features.
This blog is the first one in a series to give you more details about the integration with XenApp/XenDesktop 7.x.
In the past we could easily create our own ICA file and launch it, but within the current Citrix landscape this is no longer sufficient. The way Receiver 4 integrates with Citrix Storefront required a completely renewed design and implementation to support this technology. Of course this implementation must be easy to configure and maintain and fully support the native way of launching published applications.
Launching the published application the native Citrix way will require a well configured Citrix Receiver and Storefront/WebInterface environment. In one of the next blogs I will come back to that, but to give you the most relevant information please follow http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX200157.
The RES Workspace Manager Console had to be adjusted in several ways. We’ve managed to hide irrelevant options (from previous Citrix XenApp versions) where possible to keep a clean overview, configure more with less.
This table will show the differences between Citrix XenApp 6.x and XenApp 7.x integration features:
- How this is applied within the session depends on the version of the Citrix Receiver
- ‘Session Linger’ is available with RES Workspace Manager registry keys. For more information follow the SR2 release notes. Session Linger from Citrix XenApp 7.6 is not yet supported.
- Session Pre-Launch is available from Citrix XenApp 7.6, not for 7.0, 7.1 and 7.5.
- ICA files are not supported by Citrix and therefore not recommended to be used.

Next time more about publishing. Hope to see you again.
