How many times have you built a ‘base’ or a ‘gold’ image only to find out a specific piece of software will not work OR will show up as one device because a unique identifier. For those who know me, I spent a lot of time back in 2006 integrating Provisioning Server with XenApp. The culprit… the IMA service had a unique identifier. Single image management is a dream that many in IT strive to achieve, but with that dream comes many hurdles!

We all have been there at some point…

Our partners, LogIn Consultants, have created a tool called the Base Image Script Framework (BIS-F) to solve this exact issue! The tool is completely developed in PowerShell with the simple goal; help IT administrators ‘seal’ their ‘base’ or ‘gold’ image for Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop, VMware Horizon View, Microsoft RDS / VDI environments and physical environments. They have documented ways to automate the process as well as highlighted vendor best practices. Essentially BIS-F can detect the installation of various AntiVirus, System Management Software and others (see the list), optimize and prepare/seal the base image and delete any unique identifiers of the listed applications to prevent duplicate/ghost entries in the management servers. BIS-F 6.0.0 BETA now supports the latest RES products:

  • RES ONE Workspace
  • RES ONE Automation
  • RES ONE Identity Director

To ease the pain of building RES into your base images, check out the BIS-F tool from LogIn Consultants! RES would like to thank LogIn Consultants for including us in the BIS-F tool and we look forward to help aiding its success.
